The infusion does it all for you, so you can pew pew pew to your heart's content. You don't need to load the crossbow, nor do you need to mess with ammunition. Next turn, you say the same thing, and the same thing happens. When you say "My Artificer shoots the gnoll", the infusion creates a bolt as you pull the trigger, and it fires. How's that work? Because the infusion creates a piece of ammo when you declare an attack.
